Club wins Fair Play Award
The club has been honoured by Birmingham FA who have given us a prestigious award for Fair Play. The award was specifically for our mini-footballers in the Burton Junior Football League, however it reflects well on the club as a whole.
We have consistently set our stall out to ensure that everyone in the club takes part in football in the right way; this is a clear, and very welcome, acknowledgement that we are getting some things right.
The managers and players who were directly taking part in the mini –football section of the BJFL last season were the Under 9s, 10s and 11s. Well done to all the players involved and those responsible for their conduct – Scott Bishop, Myles Tydeman, Andy Moore, Paul Knighton, Mark Welsford and Dave Garforth. Parents should take a bow too.
Our standards have been acknowledged; the task now is to at least maintain these high standards and try to improve things still further.
A busy summer
The season that started a month or so ago came after another busy summer of activity for the club. We are always looking for ways to improve and some significant things have been put in place.
- Many of our players are now enjoying winter training facilities at the FA Centre at Rangemore. A number of our teams have elected to take advantage of this opportunity. The facilities, as you would expect, are first class, and it is already proving to be a tremendous experience for our players to train on the all-weather floodlit pitch during the winter.
- As you may be aware we have run out of pitch space for our youth teams at Holland Sports Club. Consequently two of our teams are playing their matches at Thomas Russell Junior School during this season. Thanks are due to Headteacher Mr. Brandrick for helping with the use of the playing fields.
- The club has made a considerable investment (approx £3,000) in establishing this additional facility; the hope is that it will become a permanent arrangement that will allow us to provide more football for the community in the years to come. It will also help strengthen the existing relationship between the school and the club.
- We took delivery of lots of kit and equipment. A sizeable £4,500 has been spent to make sure that our players have the best that we can provide for them.
- We have also obtained a container that is now providing the club with much needed storage space for our equipment. That has taken care of another £1100 – and we’ve still got to pay for it to be painted!
Presentation Night
Click here to see photos from the presentation night.
Thanks to everyone who attended the presentation night at the beginning of June. It is always gratifying to see a sizeable audience to applaud the efforts of all our players.
The club is indebted to Claire Williams for taking on much of the organisation again; also to Mick and Tracy Cole for running the barbecue. We were fortunate to have the support of Alrewas butcher Peter Coates for a second year; again this is greatly appreciated.
Myles Tydeman took on the role of official photographer and all the photos can be seen at our website.
We are very keen to get more people to use the website. It is simple to register and you’ve then got access to everything you could ever need to know about the club. The forum is a great way to comment on matches and is another excellent way of showing your support for all the players.
It’s also a means for the club to get information to parents and players so please register.

Committee members needed
There are two positions that still need to be filled on the committee – Treasurer and Holland Sports Club Liaison Officer. The treasurer role involves attendance at the monthly committee meeting and, as you would expect, overseeing the club’s finances.
The HSC position involves representing the club at a quarterly HSC ‘all clubs’ meeting and the regular committee meetings of Barton Rovers.
The club continues to develop and it is vital that we have an active and progressive committee. If you feel you could help and would like to contribute to the club’s progress please get in touch with Pete Moss.

Don’t forget that if you shop online you can help the club. Easyfunding has links with lots of major online retailers and for every transaction you make Easyfunding makes a donation to the club. It won’t cost you a penny more and raises money for Barton Rovers. It will only take you a couple of minutes to register; please visit www.easyfunding.co.uk for full details.
Girl’s football
For the first time we have a girls squad in the club. Dave Mullis is now coaching a group of youngsters and we hope that this is the start of many girls playing their football with Barton Rovers.
